MacLeech we worked with crown castle to build a private fiber network between sites across a few counties. We know which buildings are key relays of our backbone ring. For spokes off of the network it’s about $1200/m for 1gig or $1800/m for 10gig.
Then we have vpn tunnel over cable modem as a backup for fiber cut / switch failure protection. Works great. Comcast is the ISP in most markets. Only a few are sub split and others are mid split. I have to wonder if the sub split markets are waiting for FDX. A little late in the game to start a “new” mid split upgrade now with FDX almost in the clutches. FDX would be a great backup. Cable modem is much cheaper than fiber.
I have one site its backup is $780/m 50/50mbps Comcast ENS metro-e. Going to drop that for $200/m 150/35 docsis (includes a phone line they already have).
Another site has the same thing… 50/50 Comcast ENS same price. It’s all in triple play with one TV, two phone lines and 800/35 is about $450. It’s only about 8-10ms more latency than the metro-e. It’s a backup, and the site has both east and west 10g crown castle fiber rings with G.8032 ring protection.
I have a quote for Comcast fiber EDI Internet at the following rates:
500mb EDI Monthly charge $895.95
GIG Monthly Charge $1115.00
This is for a 3yr service agreement.
FDX would be much cheaper than that! Even if you add the extra fees for static IP. Heck even midsplit is cheaper for adequate performance. I have a few sites on Comcast Business 500/300 and its speed tests close to 600 down by 360 up. That’s one hell of a backup!
FDX would serve everyone better, near fiber performance without the insane cost.
