Forum Grouping

Take a look and the Software & Operating Systems forum (tag), inside you will see Apple, Mozilla, Microsoft, Security, and Software. Is this a good way to start organizing the community? A side effect of this is that the primary forum, Software & Operating Systems contains all discussions of the subforms (tags). Also take a look at the form list on the homepage. I am thinking to place the ISP forums after general purpose forums. I am thinking that users will hunt for the ISP they want to discuss. This makes it easier to discover the other forums. If we decide to enable it, a single discussion can be referenced in multiple tags (forums). What do you think?

In this forum software the Forums are called Tags.

Then wouldn't logic just call them Forums?
Tags means nothing.

Maybe a "group" setting can be added to the drop down

The forum software has them labeled that way. I've asked the admin if some of the things can be relabeled so it makes more sense and is what most people would be used to. Not sure if he can change those.

I think this is the problem. This "host" (FLARUM) software is not set up to be very user intuitive and logically laid out. Like they have no clue how a Forum works.

Looking around at free forum hosts, Boardhost looks more logical.

It does not follow a lot of general forum formats that is for sure. I am assuming it was chosen because @SLC_96 was already familiar with it.

geez George .. this forum is all of days old and was up & running mere days after DSLR's demise. there was no formal notice of DSLR's shutdown to allow anyone to prepare for a successor. every software has its own nuances that one must learn.

we are extremely fortunate that someone was able to step up immediately & give us a decent place within mere days to continue the DSLR community.

can it improve, sure .. give the admin some of time to stabilize this offering as he's dealing w/ not just the technology & design but also putting together a staff & defining roles.

suggestions/ideas are definitely welcome but lets keep things positive .. negativity sucks the life out of everything.

I'd love to be able to dive into this but I already run my own website on Blogger and have a full time job and help my 93 year old mom. My plate is kind of full, otherwise I'd seriously consider it.

Flarum is open source, extensible and customizable. There are hundreds of extensions available. It will just take time to get the fit we want.

I can add that this "follow tag" is not part of the forum core. It must be added as such an extension.
