Regardless of the sate of the tranny, a clean fluid should still be better than some burnt or contaminated fluid, in spite of various claims to the contrary.

Maybe you should learn a few things about CVTs before dispensing your wisdom..
For one, that is false for many CVTs since they often don't have a torque converter that is based on fluid coupling -- they often use wet clutches instead. But even with fluid coupling, they'll lock up very quickly, so they are locked during most of the range.
In any case, they have a belt between 2 sets of conical pulleys, and there's some of friction there all the time.

I would never even try to do anything internal to a traditional AT aside from filter and oil change, but the CVT looks surprisingly simple.
