real_aurgathor I tested Handbrake a long time (probably around 10 years) ago and at that time it couldn't properly transcode some video I tried. So I ended up using mencoder, which ended up being a partial abandonware shortly after that.
We have been using Handbrake for a few years now. I am not sure what version, I should update it. Haven't had to much trouble converting videos.
However, I can say that I wasn't using the program 10 years ago. It may have gotten better. I also not sure if the Mac version vs the PC version is better. I just can tell you we use it mostly on our Macs. I believe we have used it a few times on a Windows laptop but I am not sure. We usually transfer the files from the laptop to the Mac Studio.
