Private Messages is being replaced by Private Discussions

The Private Messages feature is being removed due to poor user experiences.

Sending new messages will be disabled on February 17th. Retrieval of old messages will be disabled on March 17.

Please use Private Discussions instead.

Donoreo Private Discussions was added a few weeks ago right after the site launched.

Donoreo There is the "old" Conversations speech bubble that is at the top of every page, in the blue bar. If I've understood correctly, that is going away.

On the main page, "Private Discussions" is two items to the right of the blue "Start a Discussion" button, or down the left in each forum view. Once selected, there is a blue "Discuss Privately" button which works like creating a new thread. You are added automatically, and if you click "1 Recipient" you can add or remove people to be part of the discussion. This seems to be the proposed "replacement".

But having it at the top of the page is way, way more convenient. So more scrolling, scrolling, scrolling to navigate around.

Will there be a shortcut to Private Discussions instead of the current conversations speech bubble icon in the top between search forum and the bell icon?

When I select Private Discussions at the top of the page, I don't see my private discussions.
I see a long list of discussions.

Donoreo Don't shoot the messenger! I was just sharing what I had found so far, in the event that some people weren't able to find the feature. If there is an easier way to get to it (hopefully!), I haven't seen it. I didn't design it or set it up; I'm just a guest here.

Sadly, this seems to be the UI trend these days; click/tap, scroll, "show more", "show less" and annoying just-in-time loading that never is, and creates a twitchy experience.

Do not take it that way. The scroll thing: phone user mentality.
