Hasn't started yet here, but they're still saying we can expect _40cm total. I'm actually wondering how we'll fare: Ottawa's a city that usually gets 3-4 storms of that size every winter, and this is actually the first big storm we've had this season. We usually have an army of snow plows to dig ourselves out (during the before times I would 100% be going to work tomorrow), but I don't actually know if the city's been eyeing the snow removal budget as a place where they can cut costs since we haven't been getting the kind of snowfall in the last few years that we used to.

Well so far here in Scarborough got 15cm on the dot just before midnight, not in a drift. so if we get another 5-10cm overnight it will be a pretty good storm for this area.

Here in Port Colborne about 3 cm accumulated, followed by 4 hours of light freezing rain. Temp is +1 now and rising so the switch to rain has taken place. Forecast is for about 10 mm of rain until 8 AM or so with temp steady at +2 or 3. Pretty much a non-event down here.

Additional information:
Winds from the northwest or west gusting to near 60 km/h will develop this morning and persist into tonight. These winds, combined with the freshly fallen snow, will produce near zero visibility at times in blowing snow. In addition, given existing snow banks these winds will lead to the development of snow drifts onto roadways which will impact travel. Winds will gradually weaken through Friday morning.

Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

First snow day for all GTA students in a while!

It stayed cold here all night so this was a 100% snow event for us. Guess the storm stayed far enough south.

Now the fun begins cleaning up.

My weather station shows the temperature peaked at -4C at 6:30AM here in Richmond Hill. Didn't come close to going above freezing threshold like forecasts were saying. The precipitation was all snow.

You don't see a temperature contrast like this very often along the QEW.

Slushy mix in the driveway this morning along with 2 mm of soft ice to scape off the cars. Easy to remove though since temp is still +2, but not for long.

Already got _25cm, and they're saying another 20cm more. It's pretty... 🙂

Heat pumps are happily humming along & keeping the house warm. We have yet to need the backup heating option this season.

So the GFS model, which 2 days ago had the low pressure center passing between Hamilton and Niagara Falls, was the most accurate, as the center just passed over Buffalo. That meant the entire GTA stayed on the cold side of the system, and the snow/ice/pellets mixing line stayed south.

Fluffy but still a bit heavy with icy elements, seemed like more than 15cm. City was concentrating on main roads keeping them passable, side streets are messy.

geez .. 8-10" plus i'm on a corner lot .. after 2+ hours shovelling, the windrow is the biggest irritation, I'm finally back inside in desperate need of a nice, hot cup of java : )) ..

g121 our windrow was insane - thick heavy goop. We have run out of room to place the snow, and expecting more Saturday.

25cm of heavy snow here in Scarborough. would have been brutal without a blower. just waiting for the plow to make a mess at the end of the driveway and have to clean that up later.

We're about the same in Streetsville. Some areas closer to 30cm. Thank goodness for the snowblower.

Another round this weekend and I'm running out of places to put the snow!

At least 25 cm of light and fluffy with about 6 feet w x 2 feet d of ice and slush in the windrow. Then I discovered I had lost a shear pin on the auger, making things difficult. It was to cold to try to replace the shear pin, so I managed. Running out of places to put snow.

Dks01 Any idea what caused it to jam up? The last time I broke one it was someone's entire wiper blade and arm that was stealthily hidden in the snow.
