FLASH FREEZE WARNING

6:34 PM EST Friday 28 February 2025

Temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly. Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops.

A dramatic drop in temperatures is expected near midnight with the passage of a sharp cold front.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

It tracked further north than forecast. There was an advisory for Vaughan/Markham/Richmond-Hill but Toronto escaped.

They’re saying it’s gusting at 40-50 km/h here. Sounds like it’s more than that. Bothering the dog and she usually sleeps through wind noise.

It was loud last night too, wind (outdoor wind). Snow machine is running today, it started off clear here but now is all white. Did get to BBQ last night so shout out to the weather people that claimed it would be storming and rainy.

Speaking of which it may be necessary Wednesday March 5th. It's still a ways out, but Ontario Vigilance Bulletin has issued a heads up for southern Ontario.

3 days later and we're getting SWS for portions of southern Ontario (rain) and Winter Storm Watch for areas further north (snow). Here's Toronto's SWS

Additional information:
Rain, heavy at times, and mild temperatures are expected tonight through Wednesday. With a risk of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening, local rainfall amounts in excess of 25 mm cannot be ruled out by Wednesday night.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads is possible.

Automotive spring is already here (no/minimal need for heater if it's sunny out and temp is above freezing), and cold spot temps in the far north are decreasing...around -30C from -40C just a couple of weeks ago. Plus the temperature rollercoaster starts this week, and will continue in the 2nd half of March. Still some cold days (relative to rising average temps) but some mild days too.

Standard wintertime "warm sector passage". A low passes through an area that had been cool for some time, possibly with snow accumulated. The warm sector (triangular area between the red and blue) dumps rain for a day or two, then the cold air (behind the blue) returns, freezing puddles left behind by the rain.

It would often warm up, rain and then cap the snow with a nice glazing of hard candy coating ice, and then get dark and cold again because it is the crappiest month of the year. Of course this year is a bit different.... in so many ways. I do hope the spring is a gradual warming up rather than they erratic hot/cold/jungle/winter 2.0/monsoon followed by a dry spell.

On and off rain, fog thru out the day here in Toronto. about 20mm so far according to the local weatherstations, with a late evening downpour possible.

Speaking of monsoons, https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/daily-table/2-6167865/Canada/Ontario/Toronto is currently calling for 15 mm of rain on Saturday the 15th and 25 mm on Sunday the 16th. I believe they use their (Norway) timezone, so move some of the 25 mm to Saturday. Still a ways out, and the storm track could change, yada yada yada.
