Comcast dragging their feet

Like the other cablecos, Comcast doesn't seem willing to admit that FTTP is the way to go. Also, their rates are sky high. I left for Frontier as soon as they came here.

One thorn was that Comcast refused to bring the cable to my front door and an egress that was proper and the line techs were jerks.

There are complaints about Frontier, but for me, it's been terrific.

GoNetSpeed is here also so I might give them a try in a year or so.

Yes, I'm still angry with Comcast and their bandwidth use cap, it was a money grab.

HooRU At least you are lucky to have other good options. Our options are Satellite or T Mobile. T Mobile cant secure its network worth a shit, hacked 4 times in 5 years have to be a record.

So far Comcast feels that there DOCSIS 4.0 Full Duplex (FDX), is good enough to compete with FTTP. As of now there are no bandwidth use caps with there DOCSIS 4.0 X-Class internet. But I do agree there DOCSIS 3.1 internet is way overpriced, and there bandwidth use cap is a money grab.

FTTP due to cost only fits into certain areas where deployment can be done at a cost that allows a fair ROI.

Too many urban areas have over burdensome regulations and make permitting more trouble than it is worth, conversely some rural areas lack enough prem's passed per mile to ever be profitable.

So other choices must be made to make BB possible for those areas and wireless is the next best thing which the NTIA finally seems to be coming around to understanding.

Comcast is in the process of deploying EPON FTTP in my area, they started the deployment late July of 2024. Currently xfinity.com/mytown says it will be available in summer of 2025.

I know it's not likely, but I am hoping that they do not enforce a data allowance as I too think it is a money grab and not necessary.

I dropped Xfinity in Jan of 2023 for AT&T fiber. I paid less for 2gb symmetrical than Xfinity's highest tier plus no caps. Shortly after we had a tornado come through my neighborhood and power poles were down all over the place. I thought that would have been a good time for Xfinity to string fiber(aerial here) vs hanging hard line again. Nope! New poles and new hard line. Some people suggest it's just cheaper for Xfinity to keep DOCSIS vs converting to fiber.
