Where you a student or a paid employee?
I worked a stint as a contract broadcast engineer until I figured out radio stations are cheap skates, the one I worked for WLYF FM/WNWS AM was owned by Jefferson Pilot, later knows as Lincoln Financial Media and at the time when it came to engineering was one of the higher paying stations, but not so much for the hourly workers.
Then it really changed, I was contacted and told to show up at the GM's office for a meeting, there I was informed they where switching the contract engineers only, hourly could become contractors or get laid off, one guy I knew was informed of the decision and gave the GM the finger and walked out, dumb move, had he let the company lay him off he would have received a severance check.
He called me up letting me know what had happened and by chance did I need any help as he was looking for work, I truly wanted to tell him what a huge mistake he made but didn't say anything other than I didn't need any help.
It worked out well for me as I was building up a electrical contracting business and could only do contract engineering after normal working hours, which the company preferred.
Then the parent company sold their broadcast properties after I was informed by the new management I needed to adjust my rates downward to match what the market was paying, I informed the GM that is unfortunate as I am actually raising my rates due to a increased cost of doing business, but no hard feelings if he ever needed my help in the future I'm just a phone call away.
The GM sat there with a look on his face like, oh fu** he called my bluff and raised me, now what?
