I get almost every week a flyer in my mailbox promoting ATT fiber. However, Fiber is in our area not available ( BTW no boonies, the middle of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.) After talking to a couple of ATT technicians and a few phone calls i fou8nd out that there are no plans whatsoever to put fiber in our neighborhood. Also, ATT does not take new customers for their crappy VDSL service ( wonder whether they still service the old ones), instead of that they promote their fixed wireless.

If AT&T thinks you area has wireless internet service that meets their criteria for broadband service.

Going forward they only want to offer two services wireless where it is possible and fiber where wireless is not easily deployed.

Don't be too discouraged, I was also told there were "no plans" to put fiber in my neighborhood and was offered Internet Air, then six months later they were digging up the neighborhood to install fiber.

I can't wait until it gets lit up so I can switch away from Xfinity.

Splitpair They are deploying fiber in new developments with wireless broadband available. Simply because it is much easier to do than in an existing subdivision.

Not always a lot depends on the developer and what sort of deal they can work out with the developer..

I hear ya. I’m tired of Verizon FIOS commercials since there’s no plans to build FIOS here. Rumor mill was we would get it in 2009. Never happened. Side effect of large TV and Radio broadcast markets.
