Agreed. If route/switch is not the bulk of your duties, it's almost synonymous to keeping a commercial driver's license as a backup career. Yes, I was guilty of that and paid that premium for a while.
I'm personally looking to branch off into Palo Alto, Arista Networks, and AWS. The first two I'm already "touching" routinely, the third is something I've dipped my toes into from time to time.
