Rich221976 I do work during the hurricane now. However, since I work from home, it's not like I have to go anywhere.
That's what they (AT&T) talked me into doing, I retired around 2013-2014 (had 6 weeks of vacation so my manager told me to go home and burn it up before I separated as he didn't know if the company would try to get out of letting me have the time.
Then about a year later HR contacted me asking if I would be willing to comeback to work part time, I declined as I didn't want to spend 3+ hours on the road every day I was supposed to work and it was quickly explained no need to drive except unless I need to travel to a site, I could do most of my work from home.
So I agreed to come back but for no more than 32 hours a week and it was a done deal.
However unlike you I am expected to be able to work especially during a storm.
The network is more or less self healing but once in awhile it doesn't know what to do or the automatic testing doesn't add up.
But that's not a problem I have a trailer mounted 8 KW diesel generator and I bill the company for the fuel it uses which is very little, after I bought it I was very surprised how little fuel a diesel use's compared to a gas generator.
