voip.ms SMS Feature

I have several voip.ms accounts that I manage for myself and for others. Lately, every time I enable SMS on a DID, it doesn't work. I open a ticket, and they don't respond to it. Several days later, I check the account again without making any changes to it, and SMS is working. It appears that they have a problem with their server that requires manual activation. It would be nice if they would respond to their tech support tickets and educate me. Does anyone here have a clue what's going on? I'm currently waiting for them to investigate and activate the feature that I activated on a line a week ago. It's frustrating. I'm generally a voip.ms fan.

VoIP.ms SMS is in endless Beta, so I assume they are not satisfied with what they have built. I have not experienced your exact issue... I enabled SMS on my few DIDs just once and never had a need to revisit that action... however, I have experienced SMS not working on a few occasions over the years. When this has occurred, I have opened a Support ticket and shortly thereafter the issue is resolved... I assume they 'kick the server' knowing that will fix it for awhile.

I do notice VoIP.ms re-engineering their PoP architecture for better reliability... the recent DDoS attacks surely put some fear in them. Perhaps they have been working much on that and will get back to improving lesser features like SMS in endless Beta... I don't know.

I've been using the SMS/MMS features for over a year now. I tried the forward to email and phone methods. It was somewhat unreliable and cumbersome. However, I found the Webhook URL to be very reliable and stable. I use it with a Python script I wrote to send the SMS or MMS to my Linphone clients. That makes them easy to read and respond to.

I did find that URL Retrying feature does not work. So I wrote an additional script that will audit the messages received via the Webhook against the logs at voip.ms. Any that were missed will be sent.

Ozark and RV, thanks for the responses. The SMS feature used to work better than it's working now. I think it's best to assume that it is not going to be reliable for a while, if ever. There are other SMS services that are dependable. It will be a great feature to have when they get it working.

RV, I wish I knew half of what you know. Your solutions are WAY over my head. It's kind of you to share the scripts.
