BrightSpeed Fiber users! Where you at!?

I’ve had BrightSpeed (formerly CenturyLink) fiber now for probably 5-6 years. I just got a mailer yesterday saying that they’ve upgraded my area and now I can get fiber. Yay!! /S

I’m still in the old price for life promotion from CL and don’t dare rock the boat. 1Gbps @ $65/mo.

I've had two separate visits from people with safety vests but without badges telling me Brightspeed now has gigabit fiber laid in our town, and wanting to know If I wanted a hookup. They say they're replacing centurylink DSL with gigabit fiber and the town was paying for it. However neither one could tell me where they laid it, or where the closest distribution box was. When I asked if the speeds were symmetrical, neither one knew what I was talking about.

I've not seen anyone running cable or burying lines in town except for Spectrum guys with a Spectrum truck replacing overhead cable in the alley behind us. Accoeding to the mayor and town manager, they haven't paid for anything like that. It's very fishy to me.

Their website says they have service here, but their prices are not comoetitive enough to make me change.

My relative lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Brightspeed Fiber is available at his address and he was using it for few months in early 2023. But later he switched to Ting Fiber at the same address and he has been using Ting ever since. He said he switched to Ting because Brightspeed was not reliable, internet was going down quite often it seems.

Looks like back then Brightspeed was also using VLAN ID 201 like CenturyLink/Lumen Quantum Fiber, but at least Brightspeed was using DHCP instead of PPPoE. Not sure if VLAN is still being used.

I'm southwest of Columbus Oh.
The reliability issue sounds like centurylink. When we had their POTS line, service was poor, with outages as long as a week.
When prices in reased, I switched to VoIP Callcentric. Three lines, less than a third of what I paid for one, and call treatments have blocked 100% of robocalls and telemarketer spam. Why three lines, one personal, one business and one dedicated for a project we're working on in Dayton OH.
