Comcast will deliver Super Bowl LIX in its 'enhanced' 4K format

Comcast has announced that the Super Bowl LIX will be delivered in both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for the first time ever and in its new, low-latency Enhanced 4K format on X1 and XiOne:

telcodad that’s nice to see some innovation there. I’m glad to see the Xfinity stream app also mentioned in the light reading article. If I ever went back to cable, I’d probably use an app instead of pay equipment fees.

I’ve been watching Super Bowls on the FOX sports app in 4k the last few years they offer it. It looks pretty good. I don’t think they have 4k cameras in the past, but the professional 1080p to 4k upscaling with less compression artifacts and a smooth framerate makes for a solid improvement.

I also watched the CBS 1080p ATSC 3.0 feed last year to compare. It was good but HDR to the extreme with the dark darks.

It sucks they added DRM to the spec. Because it sounds like it really could be a big improvement. I rely on Network based TV tuner to get signal to other TV's in the house. So right now ATSC 3.0 is useless to me. I know some Network based solutions are on the horizon, so I guess we will have to wait and see. Plus I like to use Plex to record my TV, because I dont always watch it live. Though there is less and less shows on OTA TV now days so thats becoming less of an issue.

Stupid question time. Since I have only crappy Uverse, if I switch my new Samsung S95D TV to over the air antenna and tune the Atlanta Fox affiliate (Fox is the broadcaster of the 2025 Superbowl, right?), will I get any major benefits other than no compression from AT&T Uverse?
Edit to add: I get tons of OTA digital stations at my house. Upwards of 50 or 60. So if fancy new audio might be part of that, I will certainly exploit it.

sempergoofy Most off the air are 1080i or 720p (for sports) Their might be tiny bit of compression if your local channel has some SD's as well. Better to try and Stream it over the Net if you want 1080P or better.
