bjlockie You’re absolutely right, and I’m glad (and impressed) that someone had the courage to point that out here. While it has gotten to an extreme south of the border, we also have to ask ourselves: are we much better (parts and supplies directly, still; Canadian-made ammunition and technology “through the back door” via the U.S.)? The rest of my commentary would be overly political, so I will leave it at that.
More topically, given the prime minister’s recent speeches, and the behaviours of our “friends” to the south, the pressing question is can we still trust them for such a major purchase of military equipment? Should we trust them? More generally, we wouldn’t want to over-burden Lockheed Martin with orders that they are unable to deliver (any time soon, or at all), particularly given the ever-increasing costs of the programme, so why not work with European middle-powers to increase production and availability of a lower-cost, more dependable design? What would we really be losing?
