I think I have TB set to check, but ask, just like FF. But it rarely mentions an update is available. It's mostly from here where I find out.

Andyross Mine updates but only if I check the version under Help | About Thunderbird. Not sure if anyone noticed but they've apparently switched to the ESR versions. I just happened to notice this today.

TB always used to be an ESR model. I think there is a regular release 135 or so, but it's mainly for those who like to play with fire. Having a browser go bad isn't a big deal as you can use another. Having your mail go bad can screw everything up permanently.

The default TB download is still for the ESR version.

Andyross Yes but initially it was not called ESR. It was just the Release version where at some point they put the ESR in the release naming. Mozilla is/has changed the Thunderbird release channels now. (Nightly, Beta, ESR and Release) Slowly moving most to the Release channel over time.
