Appropriate that this thread is in the "Cut the Cord" forum. Traditional Pay-TV subscribership numbers are cratering https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2024/02/05/charter-spectrum-stock-comcast-cable-tv-subscribers
About 55 million U.S. households still pay for traditional TV, which is "down from a peak of about 100 million just a decade ago."
The article is dated "Tuesday, February 04, 2025", approx 1 year ago, so the numbers are for the end of 2023. According to https://www.lightreading.com/video-streaming/us-pay-tv-sheds-305k-subs-in-q3-amid-signs-of-a-little-moderation-study
The US pay-TV industry's rate of decline remains rapid, but there are signs of "a little moderation" as operators lost about 305,000 subs in the third quarter of 2024, for a cumulative loss of 4.3 million subs in the first nine months of the year
55 million December 31, 2024 minus 4.3 million loss to end of September 2024, and we're hovering near the 50 million mark by the time we get to the end of 2024. Fox's potential legacy Pay-TV audience is disappearing fast. They HAVE TO try standalone streaming to regain their lost audience.
