Amazon won't deliver packages to porches

Per recent mailing. ‘to ensure driver safety’ Amazon will after August no longer honour my delivery instuctions to leave all packages on my porch. Deliveries to the front door are fine, so I have changed my instructions from ‘porch’ to ‘front door’. To reach my front door, you have to be standing in the porch. Here’s the full text of the notification: We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to share an important update to our delivery services that will further enhance driver safety. As of August 31, 2025, we will no longer deliver packages to rear doors or side porches. One or more of your addresses currently includes one of these locations as a selected delivery preference. We encourage changing your preference to a supported option using the link below. If you don’t change your preference, we will automatically default your delivery preference to the front door. We also offer pickup locations that you can add to your address book for future orders. Find pickup locations near you here. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of delivery drivers while ensuring the secure delivery of your packages.

A FedEx account is free to create. In addition to delivery instructions, like the other carriers it will automatically provide tracking alerts (if desired) for any shipment to address(es) in entered into the account.

Somewhat-Reticent I found a local storage facility that offers mailboxes.

I’ve heard that if you rent a USPS box, the Post Office will provide an additional alternate street address format for delivery, and signature service for packages from other carriers. I think these are free optional services with a PO box that you just have to fill out a form for.

We have Fedex, UPS, DHL and USPS Informed Delivery. All are handy for tracking and delivery notifications.

DHL is rare, but I ordered a Reese hitch that was shipped by it.

It was hot today, so I made a point of meeting the driver at his truck; he didn’t even have to get up. I figured giving him a tiny break might help.

I ordered a WIFI/Bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer (After seeing talk about them in a thread here), and it’s junk, but it will do for now. Also got antacid and sweetener today.

InternetJeff If a driver had done that to my lawn, they (and/or their employer) would be in small claims court to pay for resodding of the damaged areas.

It doesn’t look like that would be necessary in this case. It looks like the grass was just compressed. Are you one of those lawn Nazis who needs their lawn to be pristine? I probably would’ve complained to Amazon and left it that. That grass will probably be back to normal in a week.
