I do remember Trumpet Winsock. I also remember MS Lan Manager. And in my misbegotten youth I typed the letters “ATDT” pretty much daily. I remember when we upgraded to a 14,400 modem…. that was gucci. And when dad brought home the USR 28.8 external? oh man, we were flying
I’m a bit surprised AOL kept their dialup service active this late into the game. I wouldn’t have thought anybody would still use it… heck, lots of people don’t even still have a landline. I’ve got a cheap VOIP line which could theoretically handle a dialup signal (it works for fax), but it’s a bit precious to use dial-up internet over a VOIP line that runs over a gigabit Internet connection….
