since my wife and i like to go to national parks a lot, and the standby mode popped up for 5 bucks a month, and the mini went on discount for 300 again, i decided to purchase a mini and stick it in the car. sure, i have to purchase a regular service once a year to keep standby mode for another 12 months, but its prorated for the remaining of the month, so i can just buy the 50 gig plan on the last week and pay 20 bucks or something and just go back to standby mode.
of course this will probably work until spacex gets pissed off how many people are ok with 500kbps. for me 500kbps is plenty for a phone call, text message, email, and of course google maps.
having some connection is better than nothing in areas where cell phone service is impossible, so this is huge. and since itll be active all the time ill just take it with me everywhere.
