CTE is a progressive disease associated with physical contact that causes the brain to bang against the inside of the skull. Some direct effects of CTE include mood disorders, cognitive impairments and behavioral changes; often, it results in dementia. Crucially, CTE can only be diagnosed posthumously.
Yesterday, four people were killed by someone who thought he had CTE and wanted to get attention about this disorder. In his case, thought to be caused be football. The shooter killed 4 people and himself to get attention for it.
