Some researches took the time and money to take apart Tesla (4680 based) and BYD (prismatic LFP) battery packs and compare them.
The Tesla battery pack was a clear winner in energy density; however; BYD’'s LFP pack has some important advantages such as less heating, lower internal resistance and cheaper raw materials.

It shall be noted that the 4680 is Tesla’s own battery and they use other types of batteries from 3rd party makers, even LFPs in some standard range models, so the above only applies to the batteries torn down. Furthermore, even the 4680 batteries have multiple revisions since older ones were NMC811 while newer ones are NMC955.
