InternetJeff Half of the families were relatively happy with the results, the other half not. The interview with the one family not happy, was pretty centered on their anger of not “getting to the bottom of why” - they had hoped a trial would have delivered a “why” and, in the father’s words, “provided information that could help keep future victims from this type of crime from becoming victims, and not have made my daughters death completely useless”. However - the chances of any “why” ever coming out in a full on trial were about 0%. The prosecutors have admitted they have found zero viable link, nothing in social media, nothing in testimony, nothing in witnesses, that links the defendant to any of the victims. With there being zero connection, there wasn’t going to be testimony from anyone - expert witnesses, prosecutors, etc about “why”, and obviously in a trial the defendant was going to never say a word that would incriminate himself, so again, there was never going to be a why from a trial – I don’t think the families who were against the plea deal ever really understood that going through the mess of a trial wasn’t going to explain “why” the crime happened, just “how”.
