urbanriot Bassist Geezer Butler wrote most of the Sabbath lyrics, while bassist Bob Daisley did for Ozzy’s solo albums up to the mid 1990s. After that, Ozzy got more involved with lyrics on a couple of albums: Down to Earth in 2001 and Ordinary Man in 2020, but otherwise the record producers and/or guest musicians wrote the lyrics. Ozzy did shape the vocal delivery and tone as well as the themes upon which the lyrics were based.
His first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, caused a sensation when released in March 1981, mostly due to the incredible guitar work by Randy Rhoads. I had tickets to see him and Randy in Toronto in June 1982, and was heartbroken when Randy died in a small plane crash in March of that year. The show went on as scheduled with Brad Gillis on guitar. He did a great job, but it wasn’t the same. Didn’t see him again until January 2008 but you’re right, Ozzy gave it his all every time.
