There is an app my wife and daughters use, Yuka, they scan the UPC of things. Yuka reports back how good something is for your skin, hair, etc. It can tell you why it rates it bad, poor, good or great if you look at the details. The free option works for most things, a paid version allows you to search without a UPC and some other stuff.
