It’s the weekend! This weekend has been life changing for me. Why? I had cataract surgery earlier this week for one eye. I’ll have the other eye done in a few weeks.

Wow. In addition to seeing nearly perfect at distance, the most surprising thing was that my color perception completely changed. It turns out that the aging lens changes color over time. Comparing my “fixed” eye to the other one, I was seeing a yellow, slightly green tint . All of a sudden, the sky is blue and white is actually white.

My eye surgeon gave me four options on the type of replacement lens I wanted. It’s based on what I want to see and chose to have perfect far vision and need glasses for close-up. Of course, I chose the most expensive one.

GeekGirl1 Does that lens clear to zero-loss at night / in dark?

Depending on UV means fail when behind some window-glass.
Like vehicle windshields.

GeekGirl1 my color perception completely changed.

That’s always seems to be the thing people notice most. The lens takes on a brown or yellowish color and now it’s clear.

Unfortunately, when your red-green color blind like me, it makes it better but your still color blind.

Somewhat-Reticent They gave me a post-op “kit” with 3 pairs of eyeglasses.

Clear UV protective for wearing indoors
Dark UV protective for wearing outdoors
Bifocal clear UV protective for wearing indoors

The main point is that the type of UV protection needed for the contacts is very different than the protection used by standard eyeglasses. The brochure they gave me was very explicit about that. Use only the glasses they provide and wear them all the time.

When I change eyeglasses, I close the affected eye to prevent seeing anything until the new pair is in place.

Good observation. I’d say it did, because the blue sky appears somewhat brighter than my other (unfixed) eye.

Sparkchaser I have a strong difficulty telling dark blue from black. That hasn’t changed. My lens has a yellowish tint.

Funny, with me, when I was young I had incredible color acuity, and now I still see colors pretty well. My main issue is the floaters and the dot in my vision (tiny) where a laser zapped a part of my right eye’s macular region, but not right in the fovea. Working with Lasers as a job, it can happen, especially when employers don’t listen to pleadings about safety measures.

Just returned from a family wedding. My youngest niece was married at a Niagara winery. A good meal, lots of good vibes and family I don’t see enough of.

Just brought our California family to the airport. My wife’s 2 sisters and my brother in law. We had a swell time, but tiring and raucous in the end.

Well, it looks like another weekend here with some rain. 🙁

I think we only had one weekend so far this summer that was completely rain-free.

But, next week appears to be much nicer and drier:

Got myself out to Mohawk State Forest for a solo Parks On The Air activation this morning. 13 contacts, from Atlantic Canada to Florida and Missouri, in about an hour. There weren’t many people in the park today. Must all be at the beach.

We went north, I went in the kayak out on the lake a couple of times. The dog tried to make friends with the dog at the next cottage over, a huge Malamute, but Gracie is high energy at about 19 months old and he is big, and 4 years old so gave the “That’s enough!” bark more than once.
