I wish I could give the article link, but it’s been a few years since I read it.
The gist of it was that Proggers are pathetically “white” and that that makes the music form a scurge. I think that is highly unfair and is a type of culture shaming. In modern music, a great deal of it has roots in African or World musics. That caucasian art has it’s own to call home is perfectly ok. So long as the music isn’t guided in an aparted mentality, and that it comes from culture, what’s the harm.
My favorite musics are Jazz, Fusion, and Prog, and all three have subtly different roots. Jazz has Black Blue Roots, Fusion has world roots, and prog has classical roots. The fact that most proggers love other forms of music too means there is no moral flaw to the form.
That article has always upset me and I think about the author and what they though often and it angers me. Why must race even be an issue, it’s art for heaven’s sake.
