xpxp2002 Verizon, ATT, CenturyLink are also multibillion dollar companies that have spent over 20 years building out fiber to millions. T-Mobile and the others are the newer ones in it. The “millions of additional homes passed with fiber every year” is more of a recent thing the last few years since Covid and government subsidies. Where the government money flows, the fiber goes.
My home and city has had FIOS available for 20 years. Those low intro rates don’t last forever and I (along with many neighbors based on their default wifi SSIDs) dropped them over it.
Many have been waiting for fiber for a long while from telcos and others. Fiber isn’t as quick or easy to install as many wish. I know first hand, helping install it every day. If fiber was everywhere we wouldn’t have to worry about any upgrades cable companies are doing or how long it’s taking.
