Not_Sure Even now “4K” broadcasts are just upscaled 1080p.
The NFL games are, so far.
I believe the Olympics have been native 4K for the past several games now.
Upscaled 1080p can still look as good as native 4K, if it’s upscaled well.
Still looks dramatically better than 720p.
MacLeech Just about everything broadcast OTA that are carried on cable are still ATSC sources.
Only the 4 broadcast networks are OTA
The other hundreds of cable channels aren’t, and have no reason to be using ATSC other than backwards compatibility with old QAM cable boxes.
Not_Sure few? EVERY station broadcasts in either 720p or 1080i.
Only the 4 broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) broadcast OTA.
Everything else is “cable”, or provided directly to your TV provider. No ATSC or OTA broadcast required.
YouTube TV can get a direct 1080p60 feed of any of the cable channels, assuming they’re not being natively produced in 1080i or 720p.
You’ll notice for example that the On Demand version has noticeably higher quality than your DVR recordings.
Or that TV shows like “Lost” which were originally broadcast in 720p on ABC were actually produced in 1080p and are available in that format on Blu-Ray, streaming, etc.
