Maintenance every other week, nothing changes...?

Been getting these maintenance messages every other week for what feels like almost a year now. Internet never goes out, and the “maintenance” is done almost instantly (the message goes away within 5 minutes). Still on low split. Nothing ever changes, same speeds, same channel SNR/Power/Frequencies. Should I be hopeful for FDX? or What’s going on here?

Stuff Usually stuff in the middle of the night isn’t major hardware swaps and is only for smaller regular maintenance. Maintenance for midsplit was done at around 9am for me.

Moving nodes over to rShelf’s to decommission legacy CMTS’s in order to reduce power consumption at the hub sites typically falls under a standard maintenance event and occurs overnight. The Downstream OFDM Channel ID will change to 193, and your WAN IP will change with the move to vCMTS.

I have also had normal maintenance scheduled after a fiber cut. Depends on if a ERK was used. Emergency Restoration Toolkit. Temporary repair to restore functionality, but still compromises the integrity of the fiber optic cable. Comcast will resolve the fiber cut during the day using an ERK in order to restore service as soon as possible. A permanent fusion splice is done later on, which triggers another outage, but during the maintenance window.
Not all fiber cuts are resolved with an ERK, sometimes everything is just knocked out during the initial repair. I had several fiber cuts last year so it was cool to see this all in-action.

Still on E6000 unfortunately even with a bunch of overnight planned maintenance.

jweaver when they are doing mid-split upgrades you WILL see xfinity trucks doing work in your area. You wont be able to miss it.

badtlc4 My hood was full of Xfinity Contractors in Bucket truck who were also the same ones running lines for Quantum Fiber. S if you are fortunate enough to have lines above ground keep looking at the nodes and amps as you cant miss the huge white nodes and shiny new amps.

They were still putting in BLE-120 and MB120 midsplit stuff in Wyomissing PA this year (Keystone Region).

Only seen a few FDX amps in Amity township and downtown Pottstown (Freedom Region).

Put into the system on 1/24. I haven’t loss DOCSIS sync since November 13th. One maintenance in December and another about a month later in January, no service interruption. All 1:00 am, this one is for 12:00 am. County-wide, so hundreds of nodes affected for this upcoming maintenance. Usually Metro-E also goes down though and returns at the same time as my cable modem during these maintenance events though. On rare occasions only all of the HFC nodes go down, but Metro-E stays up.

OK, this is looking promising!!
Prior to this notice, I received an email and text message from the ‘Xfinity Assistant’ with similar verbiage about network upgrades affecting service. Last week I noticed a bucket truck crew terminating and splicing all the fiber that they installed last September and left coiled up on many of the utility poles. Fingers crossed…

They just replaced a node last week about two blocks from my house. I was at work, so I didn’t get to see the node with the dog house off. But I do know the new nodes get the new larger dog houses around here. The only node that is exposed on a pole, is about 1 to 2 miles from my house. And that was swapped out like two times in the last three years. I’m assuming there swapping to FDX nodes? I don’t think the upcoming maintenance has anything to do with the recent node swap in my area?

So, they came and went, outage started about 8:00 am, service was down for about 2 - 3 hours. I came home from work and noticed a shiny new Harmonic node where the old GS7000 had lived for the past 20+ years. Unfortunately, they did not touch any of the legacy SA GainMaker amplifiers throughout my neighborhood. OFDM DS Ch 193 unchanged, still at 805 MHz. Also, the same 6 US channels, same frequencies and symbol rates. Looks like they configured the new node to use the old sub-split profile that was in the GS7000.

azdeltawye Probably will be back to do the amps at a later date, with that date and time showing up on the status map when the date gets closer, and perhaps another email notice.

The RPD is out in the field inside of the node housing now though. (If you had OFDM ID 193 with the GS7000)

I won’t be holding my breath.
I’ve noticed other neighborhoods a few miles away from me that had node upgrades 1 - 2 years ago and still have the old amplifiers in service. It seems like they are prioritizing node swaps over amp upgrades, at least in the low-density suburban areas…

azdeltawye the amp upgrades are worthless without the nodes. Nodes gotta go first. Plus the longer the amps draw out the more likely they go in with FDX amps instead of mid-split amps.

azdeltawye That node doesn’t look brand new. Looked like a used housing. Seems dirty or some of the white powder coating is chipping away on some of the fins. What did they write on the housing with a sharpie?

That though is the node of choice in our area. No idea what’s inside, an FDX capable RPD and launch amplifier or just a mid split one.
