I have seen the announcement about going away from PPPoE and VLAN tagging to IPoE

What I cant find is any specifics on of this is for fiber only or if it includes DSL. My parents are on DSL but it appears they are still using PPPoE. When this change happens, will PPPoE continue to work for a while until the modem is changed to IPoE or will internet just stop working?
