Xfinity gateway XB7/XB8 RAM usage

It is normal for the available RAM to be between 30-45 MB out of approx. 1GB? What is taking up all of the RAM on these units? Will the gateway free up memory or crash and restart automatically when the RAM is full? I did notice that there is 4GB of storage available and only about 275 MB of it is in use. Does the gateway’s OS do swap memory? My uptime was 19 days with 43 MB free. After looking around the GUI, I checked the memory a few minutes later and it dropped to 33 MB available. Wonder what type of RAM these gateway’s use as well. DDR3?

The XB10 has 4GB of RAM apparently. Something that @videomatic3 can check out for us soon. Curious on it’s RAM usage!

To my knowledge the xb8 had a shitty design and instead of using swap on the memory it saved stuff to the ram. And yea when it runs out it reboots. Can only assume that things have improved since, I havent had issues with my xb8 in bridge mode with reboots. Looking forward to the xb10, hopefully the technician is trained on fdx and actually has one. Maybe the issues with the xb8 has caused them to make sure ram isn’t an issue with the xb10? Time will tell.

Also on the 8.0ps1 firmware the downstream/upstream channels still do not 100% populate and display properly (atleast when not in Bridge Mode). It does look like newer versions are being tested/rolled out.

Where are you seeing the ram and channel info? I’m new to the xb8 and hate the idiot proof limitations on configurations so likely going to put it in bridge mode and bug another damn router.

What’s the site for that? Couple years ago I stumbled across it and was looking at the source which was mostly their front end for GPL reasons…but alas forgot it.
