My Hikvision experience:
Support refused to help when it was discovered that camera was purchased new from a “non-approved” seller! Now Hikvision did sell: ‘A large quantity’ of systems to him, but then disavowed all reference and support from those serial numbers, which was first thing Support asked!
(Got issue solved at Hikvision UK User forum! It was a software bug later version fixed!)
A year later a vulnerability was found in their firmware. I contacted company again, with posted reference that issue existed! They replied saying to keep watching site for update “in next month or so”. 8-9 months later, after no response, contacted again. That model was then put on “Obsoleted” list 15 min after I was asked to check update site yet again! The camera image is still quite good, and entirely useable!
No Firmware fix has occurred since then.
My approach was to refuse it internet access to prevent bad things from happening.
Hikvision camera Would not accept 0.0.0.0 as gateway, and a non active Gateway IP issued multiple “Where is: 192.168.x.x ??” Messages on & to every LAN device, twice a minute.
That is when I created a “Bogus Gateway” (retired router on that IP with no WAN Connection at all, to prevent Internet access), and firewall rules as a backup! This also ceased “Where Is…..” messages on LAN
It’s working!!
