Yes the industry does indeed have a day. Pull out those declaration pages (the papers with all your coverages on it and what you’re paying for each of them) and see if you can get something cheaper. It’s best to do this at every renewal.

What a coincidence. I’m very aware of my insurance, as I’m in the process of finding a new provider. My insurance company is playing games with my policies. I’m in PA.

For example, my umbrella insurance went from just under $300 to nearly $1,200. They didn’t renew my homeowners, then they decided to renew it after my agent pulled a quote for a different company.

Was it a coincidence? I’m thinking not, as everyone monitors the C.L.U.E. database. It’s likely that the company saw activity, then decided they want my business and offered a quote for the homeowners. The umbrella is still nearly $1,200.

It’s unbelievable (but true to form) the games being played by insurers with the LA fires in January (I won’t mention any names but it’s in the video). Not only that, as an original matter, they don’t cover earthquake, flood, and your roof will be limited to actual cash value if it is over 10 years old that is in other words nothing because its value will be within your outrageous deductible that you had to agree to unless you wanted your monthly premiums to be higher than your mortgage, and almost anything besides the total loss of your house will not be covered because of that same outrageous deductible. Then in California under Proposition 103 passed by the voters in 1988 rate increases have to be approved by the Insurance Commissioner, who has only one stamp in his drawer that says Approved that is immediately stamped upon receipt of every company request.

Needless to say, like health care, these are ventures that should be run for the purpose of human need and not for nothing but greed that motivates excessive premiums and denials whenever possible and therefore invites events like the Murder of Brian Thompson.

The three words are similar to the phrase “delay, deny, defend,” a well-known phrase in the insurance industry alluding to insurance companies’ efforts to not pay out claims.

When I worked in the industry there was a similar saying some would repeat: millions for defense, not a dime for indemnity.

…and the psycho who did that didn’t even have a policy with the victim CEO’s company. He just hated capitalism in general whose lifestyle was financed by his family’s ultra-success from capitalism.

Yet you got up every morning, put on that coat and tie, and marched into the office or courtroom everyday and did your damnedest to do that very thing despite all that roiling through your head. You definitely earned every penny of what was assuredly a very nice paycheck for doing that! 😉

No it does not invite things like that. Brian Thompson was assassinated by a criminal. Criminals do not operate in the interest of society and do not care about these things. All criminals care about is their selfish impulses and maybe making a splash for their “cause”. Comparing apples to oranges. This type of runaround is not limited to any state but is prevalent in every state. While it is true that most, if not all, states allow them to get away with it, it is the carrier carrying on like this as an original matter. They are the ones who behave like this and benefit immensely from the same for their own greedy purposes to the great detriment of their policyholders that they promised to protect but never had any serious intention of doing anything outside of screwing them royally.

Such services should be conducted with the intention of helping those in need at times of crises, not like some sort of Ponzi scheme that insurance companies play. If you want to make easy money you should take your chances day trading on Wall St. or selling fancy cars, selling ultimate designer outfits and cutting edge technology that are pure luxuries, not playing head games with the vital needs of population in their times of crises. If private industry is incapable of serving these needs, then it is up to the government to step in and fill the void.

No, I worked for a company that as insurance companies go was among the fairest. Unlike companies that not only don’t pay deserved claims but don’t even pay their own counsel that they hired to work for them, they paid all such deserved claims and all their hired cousel without hesitation, so much so that we even had a couple of firms that every few months would send us an accounting of all the duplicate payments we made to them with a refund check enclosed. Many counsel that worked for us would spend the whole lunch telling us about the the complaints that they filed with the insurance commissioner against some of the carriers they worked for for non-payment of fees.

I’m not saying what he did was right or is the proper way to go about attempting to solve a problem that he apparently found very upsetting but apparently not everyone agrees with you. Luigi Mangione’s legal defense fund hits $1 million in donations. I do believe that instead of what he did pursuing the political process is the way to solve these problems but again apparently not everyone sees it that way.

Thank goodness insurance customers never submit false claims. And thank goodness customers never try to get more than they are due. Just think of what would happen to the cost for coverage if that were to happen.

We have had the same company and local agent for years. I know there are cheaper ones, but having a local agent with a long standing record of service when we needed it is worth the extra. We have auto, home, an inland marine policy and liability. I’m pleasantly surprised that our rates have risen below inflation rates.

After hearing the horror stories from our FL and LA friends, we consider ourselves fortunate.

Well, I suppose that you forgot the /s. While wrong the tyranny of relatively small actors does not justify the much greater damage that the tyranny of the large actors are capable of and much too often carry out. And don’t forget that while submitting a false insurance claim will land you in the can the much greater damage that the inexcusable behavior of carriers cause just results in 50 lashes with a wet noodle.
