old speed tiers were 150/150 400/150 600/150 800/150 1100/300 2100/300 new speed tiers seem to be 300/100 500/100 1000/100 2000/250 and they come with unlimited data regardless of what modem you use. just making this thread to point out that even in “enhanced areas” im assuming comcast realized they cant support as much upload speed as they originally did. the tiers were short lived, or they were just stress testing it to see what they could actually handle. and they just couldnt handle 150 on every tier, and they even had to reduce the upload speed on their 2000mbps tier. hopefully this doesnt happen with the symmetrical tiers too.

videomatic3 Seems weird. All other areas only got 150 upload prior with the 300/400 Mbps tier. (New plans announced on June 26th dropped this to 100 Mbps). If Comcast wants to do 300/300 in the FDX areas without giving customers an XB10 then they need to be taking advantage of the XB8’s high split capability. XB6/XB7 are only mid-split, XB8 added high split support for those who are curious.

Look at high-split 3.1 go!

Lol. Well I’ve done some things recently that made it super easy to max out the 300mbps upload.
Changing out a transceiver that’s compatible with my mikrotik made an astronomical difference, also changing my traffic control mechanism on each computer individually from cubic to bbr on Linux, and bbr2 on windows made an astronomical difference too. Downloading anything from home to where ever I am maxes out the 300mbps, so why not. Havent tried over seas yet, but when I was in Thailand it seemed to hit a 2mbps barrier no matter what i did, thinking it’s throttling by true during certain hours.
Then theres my synology server… refusing to update kernel to support bbr. they want us to use their presto file server which is extremely cost prohibitive, so now absolutely everything i do runs through a proxy server, minisforum ms-01 with proxmox. Ms-01 + bbr = cheaper than presto
Running speed tests from vpn over seas to synology brings me abysmal speeds, through the ms-01 reverse proxy I can max out speeds anywhere in the world.

videomatic3 I also wanted to note another thing. Originally they said the xb8 would be ok for the 300/300 service and the xb10 would be required for everything else. But when I look at the 300 tier it requires an xb10 now too.

I thinks all Xfinity did was change the wording on the broadband labels, to match across all the DOCSIS symmetrical tiers. That doesn’t necessarily mean there going to require you to use a XB10 on the 300/300 tier. I just checked, the 300/300 tier is still the only tier that allows you to do a self install. So that tells me there still running the 300/300 tier on Mid-Split, using the XB8. The regular rack rate was better before with the old X-Class 300 tier at $65, now it’s $80. One thing I did notice, it looks like there giving you the option to use you own modem on all DOCSIS 4 tiers. If and when or ever one gets approved for Xfinity’s DOCSIS 4

bigcoda if you use your own modem you get 35mbps upload or 100, 250 or whatever. Through my ordering process it said in the end my speed tier was 2000/35. Then another screen showed 2000/250

heres me using a vpn in the farthest vpn location geographically that i can think of… south africa. maybe i lied it wasnt full speed but this is pretty good for the distance, and the RTT ping is going all the way there and all the way back. it spikes up to 300, i donno. will be fun to see what its like after getting 2000/2000

smilingbob the Now/Prepaid just doesn’t have as much value as it once did. This is especially true if you have mid-split, and FDX makes Prepaid nearly obsolete.

Depends on your usage, and how important price is to you.

I put a few of my family members on 100/20 prepaid for $30 and they’re very happy with it, and it’s plenty fast for them. Comcast also tends to increase the speed every few years while keeping the price the same.

videomatic3 The ping is obviously not great for most applications, but it is still impressive that you can send data across the world in only a little over half a second. The Internet is great.

Speed limitations at the peering level, or the upstream ISP’s peering agreements? I do recall that someone tried a iPerf speed test from an AT&T Fiber 5 Gig connection to a server with a 10GB connection all the way in the Netherlands and the speed was about 240 Mbps.

i dunno, i just picked some random server in the netherlands and this is what i got…
i have noticed that if im on a 1gbit ethernet connection my speeds are way worse than hooking up to my 2.5gbit ethernet interface, and i have no idea why.
like if i pick a comcast server on the east coast i get 600mbps on gigabit ethernet, and i get 1gbit on the 2.5gbit interface.

and now i just tested it again to validate my comments. im off.
on the left i did 2.5gbit, and on the right i did 1gbit. same computer.
i have no idea why its like this, and it kinda pisses me off. so now im really wondering if having 10gbit to the cable modem will change things too on the xb10

Sigh - Docsis bandwidth is so flaky in all flavors and the higher frequencies they move to the shorter distance quality connection can be made, more reliant upon fancy amplifications etc. Id much rather have 1gbps symmetrical fiber that pegs that speed all the time than this sometimes 1200 some times 400.

85ms ping seems very high for being wired. I get 9-12ms to the local Comcast server.

Man-of-Leisure this is across the country, server in MD and im in california. Purpose of the test incase you missed it was the adapter speed on the computer affects what speeds im able to get on the computer, and id like to know why. Changing the receive window size to experimental helped in windows, i was able to get 500 instead of 300, the 2.5gbit interface got 2gbit instead of 1600… through a vpn on the gigabit im able to max out both the 1gbit adapter and 2.5gbit adapter… it’s just weird behavior I dont understand

Went to my local xfinity store and upgraded to 1Gbps plan with 5 year contract and I’m now paying $33 less than my old 500 Mbps plan. Just a “me too” post, but it is pretty rare in my life to get more service for less $ for a monthly utility. I cannot think of any other time this has happened to me.
