Privacy campaigners are branding frozen food retailer Iceland's decision to trial facial recognition technology (FRT) at several stores “chilling” – the UK supermarket chain says it’s deploying the cameras to cut down on crime. … The FRT is provided by Facewatch and currently deployed by other retailers including House of Fraser, Sports Direct, and Home Bargains.; the camera is hooked up to a database of people suspected of committing a crime on previous visits to any Facewatch customer’s stores. …
The glacial recognition technology is claimed to “not monitor innocent shoppers, not store your data, trained store teams to calmly identify repeat offenders who are known to use violence or intimidation.” I’ll believe that when it’s a cold day in hail.
Iceland to customers : “Have an ice day shoppers! Don’t call ice, we’ll call you.”
Iceland customers are the lucky ones they’re the frozen one. That’s just the tip of the iceberg!
Customer getting cold feet at this news so are giving Iceland the cold shoulder?
I’ll quit while I’m ahead. XD XD
