ElQuintron I’m really only planning on buying stuff on my wishlist, but maybe that’s wishful thinking.

I have way too many games. So I’m not particularly looking for anything.

For a number of years now, Steam sales haven’t had the dramatic price cuts that they did in the beginning. Now it seems like the big Summer and Winter Steam sales just repeat the various common sale prices you see on the games throughout the year.

ugly95 Agreed, the sales don’t have the big lure for me that they did in decades past. Part of it is that now if I want something I probably already own it. But the Steam Sale still sucked me in and I ended up picking up a Sea of Stars and The Messenger bundle for 51% off the combined price (around $24 for both). I have been neglecting my Steam Deck and I’m a sucker for old school JRPGs.

I played The Messenger a while back. I enjoyed that one. I think my only complaint on it, which is one that I feel comes up a lot in these retro-inspired games, is that there are times when it has way too much dialogue.

Sea of Stars is on my wishlist. I didn’t check the price on that one.

What now feels like a lifetime ago I would spend hundreds of dollars on games during their summer sales but since they made whatever changes they’ve made, I get better deals from Epic, GOG, Humble Bundle, etc., or sometimes even better deals on Steam when that game goes on sale outside of the event.

I’m on the old grandfathered Humble Choice plan and that keeps me occupied along with the occasional sale on last year’s ‘big game’ on Epic.

I bought it from the mostly for my Steam Deck and Linux, but it’s also available on Game Pass if you have it.

This is definitely a successor to old school JRPGs, despite being a lot more advanced.

What I enjoy most about the Humble Bundle is getting a game that wasn’t on my radar and it turns out to be a highly addictive game.

What was more impressive was that hundreds of dollars of games, were titles that were like 80% off and probably cost like $5 each. I find those huge discounts just aren’t there anymore.

I don’t find myself buying from GOG much anymore either. Their prices aren’t better. And they tend to lag a bit on game patches.

As for Epic, I’ve only ever grabbed the free games from them.

I used to buy from GreenmanGaming a lot, but for some reason they stopped sending emails and I stopped paying attention to them.

I think most of my recent purchases have been from questionable key stores like CDKeys and Kinguin.

I have a steam account that I never use with so many games because of these sales. The memes weren’t
enough of a deterrent. I deserve this. 🤣

I played The Messenger a lot this weekend and think I’m getting close to the end. I loved the original Ninja Gaiden on NES. And the text in this one is almost my favorite part! Very funny, 4th wall breaking, and pokes fun at itself for using cliched video game tropes every time it uses one. I’m enjoying it! And I never would have picked it up if it wasn’t less than $2 for part of that bundle.

Maybe I’m misremembering. I do remember the 4th wall breaking stuff. Was there maybe an achievement where you have to talk to the shopkeeper a bunch of times. I think I was trying for that achievement so everytime I went into the shop, I talked to the guy, and he kept repeating his longwinded dialogue.

I may not be as far along as I thought. My character reached the top of the mountain (his goal), and tells the shopkeeper he thinks he is nearing the end of his adventure. Shopkeeper says “You clearly haven’t watched the trailer.” LOL

Indiana jones, rdr1, and a few other little things I want arent on big enough sale for me. I’ll probably grab a couple indie games while i wait for them next sale.
