Thing is, it’s rental, so doing any kind of work, depending on the scope can be a bit tricky.
Some landlords care more than others – in one place (Seattle, U-district) I sanded the floor and recoated it with poly, and put a sheet a of plexiglass over the street facing window because of noise. In another place (Vancouver, WA) there was bunch of openings in the closet that held the water heater and where the pipes were coming in, and I ended up patching up all the excess opening using 1 or 2 lbs of patching compound. Apparently, there was a heavy smokee underneath me, and the smell of smoke got into my apartment.
