23 years on the old site. GuruGuy Edit. Went to the wayback machine and found that it was 23 years with this username. I had another account before this but locked myself out of it and just created a new one. So young and dumb back then hahahaha.

Thanks for making this site. I've posted on and off on DSLReports for years. I'll really miss the old site if it never returns, but can definitely enjoy my time here too.

I've been fascinated by the Internet since I first heard about it and that fascination hasn't dimmed in 30 years. I hope it never will.

Found this place after finding info on Reddit.

I can't believe the other places is dead. I signed up in 2003 after lurking for so long. I was about 4 years into the start of my IT career.

I loved helping people and also the info that I could find so quickly. It's sad to see the community fracture and die off.

I'm glad to find some friends again...

They tried to sell it about ten years ago but that fell through.
Justin retained ownership but "The Justin" became an alias and cover for Cabana she was to the best of my knowledge the Powers that be at DslReports and was related to me by my Mod source Mike is that"She" decided to shut it down without any recourse, resale or transfer and no disclosure to the members. The reference to "She" is that Cabana was the only "She" and the only power broker and Justin was involved with the decision making as well.

I admit, I'm getting more & more angry at the likelihood that a single person decided to simply blow up a 25 year old community with not a peep of notice. not to be overly dramatic but DSLR was more than just tech stuff, more than just social chit chat .. there were folks out there who relied on DSLR for real life help & support.

No the site power decision maker that was the "Cabana" Management authority.

The She referred to was the management person with the Justin power proxy and that was "Cabana" She had been running the site for years both with and without Justin presence and used the Justin tag as a cover. At one tine earlier at the site history "The Justin" was 3 different persons using the Justin Tag.
This I know was true.
The other comment relayed to me was Cabana was tired of the work required at the site and no longer had the time for it.

Papers were served by Liquid as was referred to by a source on Reddit to take ownership of the site after the shutdown because They meaning Dslreports ignored notices used false contact information and closed all the email accounts and contacts

Totally get this, but why such an abrupt shutdown with no warning to end users? None of us could find her, right, to bitch and moan.

OK, I finally got the screen capture from archive.org. None of the search engines I tried showed my post count. The latest working archive was on July 28, 2024. The snapshot on December 23, 2024 was broken. I'd say I had about 7425 posts before shutdown.

It seems to be more common today among some of the population, what is now called "Ghosting".

In some quarters, "Ghosting" has become pretty much accepted as no big thing.

Ghosting on dates, ghosting on job interviews, ghosting on first day at a new job...

Now folks, look at the NEW forum HERE---one guy is setting it up from scratch, and doing pretty well after just a couple of days!!

So if this "cabana" had asked for some help from some of the huge numbers of talented people who participated in DSLR---which for heavens sake WAS a TECH forum---maybe DSLR could have kept going.

Perhaps with fresh software such as this Broadband Bulletin site is using...

As to why DSLR membership had been dropping down---that is a Catch-22---it was all the glitches and downtime that LED to some of the dropoff. Also lack of indexing, certificates repeatedly being expired, and lack of even basic maintenance and attention.

Ah ok finally found it. Using the web archive (wayback machine) got into a forum where my avatar was at the top contributers. Hovered to get my user link id (useremail/u/number). Then put this url in the wayback machine and went back until a page finally loaded. The latest one in December 2024 gave me that access error, but a scrape from October 2nd 2024 got me in! The post and visit count would be a little higher since then, but this is close enough.
