23 years on the old site. GuruGuy Edit. Went to the wayback machine and found that it was 23 years with this username. I had another account before this but locked myself out of it and just created a new one. So young and dumb back then hahahaha.

Joined DSLR in 2002 as “TwoFrogs” (there’s a story there) mostly for folding@home with DSLR Team Helix. A few of those long-time members have made their way to Discord; they also have the link to this site.

robxr4ti I found this in a roundabout way, by typing dslreports in the search engine, which led me to updownradar, where someone linked to Reddit-DSLR, where i recognized at least one name (px_eliezer), who linked me here after dialoging him. I know i've never been much of a contributor on DSLR, but just letting you know how i got here. I can't understand why others can't find this place in the same roundabout way.

Dustyn I registered there before this site was up and closed my account in less than 24 hours. Not for me.
There really aren’t any rules there and they’re proud of their self moderation.

Started to visit dslreports in 1999 in my quest for better than dialup access. Officially joined in the spring of 2000. Wow, that is 25 years ago.

FYI. Old copies of the web site: https://web.archive.org/web/20250000000000*/dslreports.com -- Last copy was from 1/14/2025. I don't know much it archived though. I think that was the last day before it went down. My SeaMonkey's history says 1/14/2024 6:35 PM for https://www.dslreports.com/forum/mozilla so that matches. https://archive.is/DYFSB has a copy too, but it's two years old. 🙁

[deleted] I joined over there in the first big wave when Le Ho Fooks closed on DSLR several years ago. I was glad to have a similar place, but it exceeded the flavor of LHF. I took a break from it, then returned after some messages from others encouraging me to give it another try. It gave me indigestion again. So I bid it adieu. As I wrote elsewhere, HLF is not my cup of tea.

I joined in May 2000.

I learned plenty. It helped kickstart my network engineering career specializing in Cisco Systems, and I'm very thankful for it. It also served as my go-to for all things VoIP especially back in the early inception days of Google Voice. Lately it was mostly to read the news articles from the main page.

I hope someone tracks down RonR and brings him back. The niche community still using Raspberry Pi with FreePBX needs him.

Finally, and I hope this isn't an over-reach, if the shutdown was planned and deliberate, can someone share the reasons why? Personally, I think Karl Bode is a dick and not worthy of reading his articles, but his op-eds started dominating the daily news links at the old site. Not that I have a crystal ball, but I wouldn't be surprised he had something to do with this.

No, Karl has nothing to do with DSLReports abrupt ending. I have emailed him a few times through the years and he expressed last week that he was surprised the site lasted as long as it did. I actually hope Karl could write an article about the demise of DSLR, once the dust settles.

There are rumors here and there, people who say they know, etc., and keeping pretty much quiet about it. I suspect over time it'll all come out what happened.
