23 years on the old site. GuruGuy Edit. Went to the wayback machine and found that it was 23 years with this username. I had another account before this but locked myself out of it and just created a new one. So young and dumb back then hahahaha.

caltroon Yeah, tlbepson did a lot of tinkering with Win10, and she took copious notes and formatted them into pdf's. I think I still have one she sent when I built a new PC and was deciding between Win10 and Win11.
It was around 40 pages long.

It is crazy the owner is doing nothing. They should have let members clone the entire site to a new server and at least transferred one of the domains to use.

Most people here are pretty disappointed about this. I have no idea why it was nuked so unceremoniously. I had most of the people I spoke with regularly on various Discord channels and email, but I'm afraid there are some people who are never going to come back.

From what I saw poking around, everything is still up except for the forum software itself. Presumably they just stopped the service for it, as nginx is still trying to proxy to it.

Don't know what their deal is with basically ghosting the community for years and then secretly planning on abruptly shutting it down. Whoever made the decision should be ashamed of themselves.

ElQuintron I'm afraid there are some people who are never going to come back.

That's what I'm dealing with as well, with some DSLR folks not interested in coming here. The complaints seem to revolve around the color scheme of the site and its different organization.

I wish we could have a homepage with news again. I've offered to curate the daily news to @SLC_96.

How old was Justin when the site was created 25 years ago? Based on his reported work history when the site started, I figured he was in his late 30's to mid 40s. Making him 60-70 today. How many members has DSL Reports lost during that time in that age group?

That's what I figured until the comments on Reddit about the shutdown supposedly being announced in private to mods, and the mods told to keep it a secret. Additionally, it seems they stopped nginx (and some mail services) last night so the image CDN is now also dead.

The whole secrecy aspect is what irks me the most, what is the point??

Kinda goes along with my other theory that I haven't mentioned as to what happened.

Pros and cons about working overseas: In England I found that the locals had a reluctance to invest too much effort into befriending working Australians - rightly so, as they will probably up and leave at any moment. Culturally, America is a bigger gap to bridge even though the people may appear to be more approachable. A pro is the opportunity for travel. The other con is that the more time spent overseas the smaller Australia feels upon return.
Miss about Australia: I miss the relaxed people and the unique sounds of Australia such as birds and other wildlife that are everywhere. Even Donald Trump can't watch yachts in the sun from a ferry on his lunch hour, or be warmed by the sun in December and July. I also miss easy access to Vegemite.

I've had that happen once, maybe twice. I'm not sure but it could be that Admin was updating something. With the site being so new he's tweaking things as we evolve. Hopefully it's nothing more serious than that.

For me it's been happening constantly since I started coming here, every time I access the site. Just now it took nearly two full minutes for this page to appear with only the top banner loading.

hmmm .. i've been here all six days BBF has been live .. & i've never had the issue you're noting even once .. what browser are you using? are you on a VPN?
