I have been bouncing from game to game lately, and decided I wanted something to sink my teeth into so I picked up Death Stranding 2 since I was enjoying the first one before I put it down. I figured I’d watch a recap.
When I went to google to find a good, comprehensive recap, the warning over and over was not to watch any recap; none will give you what you need to be emotionally invested in the characters. Like everyone I saw strongly advised against it. I started a video and he was like seriously shut this off and go play the game. I was in Chapter 3 of my old save, so I decided screw it, I’ll play through from there and only focus on the story.
So I booted that up and didn’t remember anything about the game. I started over, with the sole intent to beeline the story.
I played for 3 days, ignoring most of the sidequests. I’m on chapter 5 now and LOVING it. Taking out the optional quests really moves the excellent, super weird and yet very well-crafted story along and keeps the game engaging; I fell off last time schlepping stuff back and forth between the outposts and I didn’t really understand the game. I feel like I do now and I am very much into it. I’m still doing anything that looks important or is on the way, but not the optional stuff that doesn’t look like it moves the needle.
Anywho I’ll keep plugging away here and eventually get to the sequel, but I feel like I finally ‘get’ Death Stranding. All it took five years and two attempts, but I’m finally sold. I almost took another day off to play!
