After the new year some time I might upgrade

I’m in a financial process right now. It might mean a brighter future and if so, I would to go back to 1Gb/s-1Gb/s and get the Eero 7 upgrade. I don’t really need it all that badly, but I would have some use for it.

Yes, it would be smart to get my own routers and upgrade my NICs and Phones. I will do so in due time.

But still 500/500 has been terrific and I admit that 200/200 would work for me adequately.

I don’t see myself, at 67 years old and possibly moving to senior housing in a few years, going beyond 1 Gb/s, but who knows.

I hope by this time next year I will have built a brand new tower computer that can take advantage of greater bandwidth potential. But I don’t game. I have zero interest in gaming, for me, it is a waste of valuable time that I can spend on my studies and my music AND my writing. In a couple years I hope to write a book and in 3 to 4 more years I want to gig as a musician. There for, even if I liked gaming, which I don’t, it’s boring and childish to me, I just don’t have time for it. If I did, I’d be improving my programming skills and writing code.

What is the next tier Frontier will introduce? 9? 10? When will that happen? I think not for another 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, the Amazon Eero is free for use. But for me, that router lacks noticeable coverage at my house. [I connected the Netgear NightHawk back up after the tech left. The Eero has no external antennae - causing the issue.] The 500 Meg works great for me as well. Could I use the 1 gig, sure, but it was $15 more / month- Frontier called wanting me to upgrade. I declined. As for future upgrades, that will likely be on Verizon, after they take over in January 2026.

I’ve looked at ATT and Verizon prices. WE are in for a shock when Verizon takes over. Customers are going to be angry. Eventually fiber will cost the same as cable or more. Then people will run back to the CableCos and their garbage service.

HooRU Frontier has offerings that Verizon does not, though (i.e. 5Gig and 7Gig). I imagine that we will see proper adjustments to pricing based on those tiers being added into consideration. I highly doubt Verizon would cap speed tiers for new customers to align with their existing tiers, but rather adjust accordingly on a market-by-market basis.

And will 10Gb/s come in the next 3 years? And we will need to grow past XGS-PON. I would be logical for Verizon territory (of this time) to expand and the acquired Frontier customers follow after

I’m sure there are some home users that legitimately benefit from speeds over 1 GB such as having multiple users or routinely move huge files. I suspect though that “Mine’s bigger than yours” is more frequently the motivating factor. I don’t do anything to make my 300 Mb. connection breathe hard.

Yes, I downgraded my Comcast/Xfinity speed tier from 800/20 to 300/20 to save money and have noticed no impact.
