Regarding any ceasefire, Iran is not to be trusted, as they have shown over and over again. But what we have here is not unlike the Imperial Japanese leadership at the end of WWII. That culture was also keen on the propaganda of “never surrender”, fighting to the last man, woman, and child; and (especially) saving face. They were just as obstinate.
We should take a page out of history and offer to fly Iran’s chosen representative to the deck of one of our warships to sign the instruments of any agreement, televised to the international world, and make sure that the signatory acknowledges the consequences of backsliding. No boots on the ground. Just more death from the sky if they get out of line again. We can put MOPs, JDAMs, and Tomahawks into every Iranian military facility, factory, warehouse, farmhouse, hen house, outhouse, and dog house.
