Why Do Lumen's DNS Servers Keep Failing?

I’d be curious if anyone here has any insight as to why Lumen (CenturyLink/Quantum) is having so many problems with their DNS servers.

For the last however many months, Lumen’s DNS servers have been repeatedly dying, effectively disabling internet access for non-technical customers. At first this seemed like a fluke, but it keeps happening again and again, most recently yesterday.

The matter has piqued my curiosity - mostly because I’m wondering how on Earth Lumen is having so much trouble. I won’t claim that running a DNS server is easy, but most other providers haven’t had this kind of difficulty in providing rock-solid DNS services. So it stands out when a provider is having issues like this.

What is Lumen doing (or not doing) that is causing its DNS servers to repeatedly die for hours on end?

I don’t have a specific answer other than to observe that Lumen is really CenturyLink which tends to have the bottom-of-the-quality-list reputation.

For me it looked more like a connectivity problem that impacted both their DNS servers and their web servers. I’m on Quantum fiber and the access point / router can only be managed via a phone app (grrrrr…) and that went down along with my WiFi. However my wired computers are behind a separate firewall using Google DNS servers and kept running due to my dislike of CL DNS servers. (Yes, a wonky setup that mimics the one at my church that I support.)
