Apple has not had firewire ports in their devices for many years, and they dropped their thunderbolt2 to firewire adapter quite some time ago. Needing to use a dongle chain for access (TB3 <> TB2 <> Firewire 800 <> Firewire 400) was not ideal, but it did work (at least mostly).
The only question is whether the creative professionals who still have firewire peripherals will push back (some audio and video equipment uses firewire, and some are extremely expensive, so not every org/individual has the option to constantly upgrade).
Hopefully those that are part of the development beta that still firewire requirements will provide that feedback.
