My site expense, can I bring it down?

I own a website:

It costs almost 300 dollars for hosting and my host is bluehost. I've been mostly happy with them, but it's not cheap. I pay for other things as well. My site is not for profit. I don't know if all the hassle to change hosts would be worth it, I've never moved a website before and I don't even know where to start. I'm an amateur.

If it's a monthly cost, you could most likely save some money by buying your own HW and set-up your own server.

For a halfway decent system you would need:

a decent internet connection-- either fiber optic, business cable, or SDSL, but depending on bandwidth consumption, you may get by with less
a hardware firewall and router such as OPNsense, pfSense, etc. Needs an inexpensive, low end x64 PC.
a web server -- for a presumably low traffic website, a mid-range x64 PC should be enough
a database server -- an old Dell T620 or something comparable with at least 4 HDDs (Raid 6!) from eBay should be sufficient. I got a T610 w/o any HDD locally for $150 about 4 - 5 years ago. But do not buy a T610 since their default SAS controller can only handle drives up to 2 TB.
enough UPS to deal with shorter outages
some way to make periodic (read: daily) backups, preferably automatically
some SW to make all the servers work, and work together.

If that "$250ish" is a yearly cost, having your own server is not likely to save you much money, if anything at all. Although you can combine the web and database server, and omit some non-essential pieces to bring down the cost of the hardware.

Shop around but do keep in mind that the cheaper the host the worse it can get. Hopefully, someone with a small site can chime in.

A dozen pages? Try over a hundred, one of which is a blog. You didn't dig deep enough clearly. And tons of images and tables. Lots of nested links.

HooRU Either way it's a small uncomplicated site. How many concurrent visitors and visits per month are you seeing? What is the total current storage needed for the entire site? Seems to me, you can use the most basic hosting plan for a Wordpress site available.

No, the space limitations are one problem.

I'm not a front end dev, I want the retro feel. Most musicians prefer retro and simplicity, so there's that.

I think the fact that I have so much content causes issues.

There wasn't a suitable intermediate package sadly, the bottom tier service won't work, I don't recall all the reasons why.

Perhaps a comparable host with a more appropriate package?

If you google pick reviews I come up first, so I'm doing something right, but I have a lot to learn, go easy on me.
