Episource was taken over a few months ago by OPTUM which is owned by UNITED HEALTHCARE.
All the SAME FOLKS who gave us the massive CHANGE HEALTHCARE breach last year…!
Episource does audits for many companies—for example Aetna—even though Aetna and United are competitors. These are usually not billing audits but rather to see that diagnosis codes are accurate.
An Episource competitor is Ciox Health (now part of Datavant). AFAIK they have not had a recent breach.
Medical offices HATE Episource and Ciox (etc) because their SOP is to nag, nag, nag to get the records that they want.
Yes, they have a job to do—but these companies mainly use foreign workers halfway around the world.
Imagine trying to answer a phone call from these companies when the phone connection is simply awful AND the language fluency is poor.
One wonders if most Americans realize that their private medical records are tossed all around the world.
