Somewhat-Reticent My only assumptions were about the content of the video, and its intended audience. In it, she has the text “I KNOW MORE THAN YOU THINK”, and also asks “Have you come up against a mother with nothing to lose????”. Her snarly speech is as previously quoted. If none of that sounds like a threat to you, I don’t know what would. At whom it was directed is not known (or at least has not been released by investigators).
I am not the one claiming that the child was abandoned; police charged the mother with child abandonment, which, it was explained (see articles), is a rarely-used placeholder charge to get her into the system pending additional investigation and/or charges. The judge also agreed with the Crown’s request that she not be released, though she reportedly has a court appearance scheduled today (Wednesday), to set a date for a bail hearing. Police have also sealed her apartment.
Although it seems unlikely, there is some chance that this is a bit of an unfortunate miscommunication. The description said that the child speaks English; it is unclear if the mother is fluent in French, or if the store employees speak anything but French. It could be that the “don’t remember” line was incorrectly reported/translated somewhere along the way. One article claims that she “didn’t know” what happened.
Personally, I would expect a child of that size and weight to be in some sort of booster seat in the car, and, were it me, I would use the child safety locks, with the child in the back, as she is supposed to be. That way, she couldn’t “accidentally” get out of the car when she shouldn’t. Similarly, window controls would be restricted, to avoid accidents like the dog falling/jumping out.
With her apparent character, and having quit her job, it seems like something was developing. I would be upset if she had knowingly harmed just the dog, but to involve the child in any way just brings it to a completely different level. Even if the child is found in Ontario, and she is safe (but how did she come to be in Ontario?), I think it would be a very good idea to evaluate whether this woman is fit as a parent.
